4 fishermen bodies found, Mumbai police take over probe

The Indian Navy and Coast Guard have succeeded in fishing out four missing fishermen till now, while two are still missing, in a horrifying hit and run case by a Coast Guard vessel, breaking a fishing trawler into two pieces on 26 April.

A murder case was filed at Cuncolim police station against the navigator of ICGS Vaibhav, in fact a hi-tech rescue boat, which hit the fishing trawler Sea Messiah at around 5.15 am.

Other fishing trawlers had rescued 23 members of the crew while five were missing.

Two more bodies were fished out today after one body each was traced in last two days, confirmed Commander S D Bhanot, heading Goa region of Indian Coast Guard.

They have pressed into services of six ships – three each of Indian Navy and ICG, and two aircrafts – Dornier and Chetak.

Meanwhile, Yellow Gate police station of Mumbai, belonging to Port Zone took over the probe into the hit and run murder case in the deep sea.

The team is headed by Tanaji Gadge, deputy commissioner of police (Port Zone).

 

Though Cuncolim police had earlier filed a murder case, chief minister Manohar Parrikar had expressed helplessness in taking any action since the accident took place in international waters.

Gadge, whose Port Zone police look after cases falling under international waters, met Cuncolim PI Raju Raut Desai before beginning his probe. 

Meanwhile, the Board of Inquiry is being instituted by the Coast Guard into the whole incident.

“The report would be submitted soon”, said Commander Bhanot.

Parrikar, along with fisheries minister Avertano Furtado and trawler owner association members, visited Goa Shipyard last night to inspect the ICGS Vaibhav.

It is presently being kept there for repairs and not yet being confiscated.

This statement from Parrikar surprised me a lot. Parrikar cannot do anything?? can he not take up this matter aggressively with the concern authorities, such that the culprits are booked and prosecuted.

Not that if he could do something he would. We all know how much he and Kahki Pants (Goa Police) have succeeded in apprehending the culprit of the Vasco Rape case that happened in broad daylight.

It is despicable crime by the coast guard. They ran like cowards after destroying the trawler and murdering those helpless kids on board.

The captain of the Coast guard vessel should be booked immediately. He should hang his head in shame. What a coward. Probably he is hiding in Varnpuri, Mangoor Hills, Vasco.
