Parsekar resolves fish-strike in Goa

Two days after Goan fishermen went on a flash strike over alleged assault on their crew, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday sought to resolve the matter, resuming the supply of fish to the state market.
Fishermen had struck work after fishing trawlers from Goa were stopped and crew members were allegedly assaulted recently by counterparts from neighbouring Maharashtra over water boundary dispute.
"I have spoken to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis telephonically and informed him about the assault. He has assured to take necessary action," Parsekar told reporters after meeting the fishermen at his official residence here.
The fish markets across the state were closed for last two days and trucks carrying fish from the neighbouring state were stopped. The continuation of strike would have resulted in fish scarcity in the state.
Parsekar said fishermen would not be allowed to take law in their hands.
"Stern action would be taken if they try to do so," the Chief Minister said.
He said protection would be provided to wholesale fishermen, who have also complained of a threat from? some leaders.

I am very satisfied with the quick measure taken by Chief Minister towards . the fishermen in Goa. If other measures were taken as, cleanliness of the villages and towns Goa could be a paradise to visit.
