Konkani writer Ana Mhambro no more

Ana Mhambro, known for his tongue-in-cheek humour in Konkani literature, expired today in Mumbai after brief illness.
He was 75.
He was a recipient of Sahitya Academy award in 1987 for his famous book of collection of satirical stories “Panaji Atam Mhatari Zalya (Panaji has become old now), published in 1985 by Kullagar Prakashan.
Arvind Narayan Mhambro, born in 1938, was known as Ana Mhambro in the literary circles.
He is survived by his son Gautam.
Ana has several other books to his credit, including the collection of stories of Independent Goa he edited as well as ‘Prasada Fool’, another collection of stories.
His another book – Kombo Gelo Tarwar – was recently published by Goa Konkani Academy.
Based in Mumbai, Ana was working at Tata Economic Consultancy Services till he retired.
He had earlier also worked on All India Radio from 1953 to 1955 and then as a lecturer at Kirti College from 1955 to 1957.
Ana’s specialty was a satire without malice.
He was known for narrating any story in a playful manner and lighter vein, without hurting anybody.
He had also edited a book “J R D Tata Letters” in 2004, published by Rupa &Co.
He was also honoured with Konkani Bhasha Mandal and Kala Academy awards for his prolific writings.
