Mashem, Canacona

Canacona taluka and Keri in Ponda would be developed as education hubs of Goa.

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar had all the praises for both the places in his speech on educational scenario of Goa.

In fact he was upset that the union human resource ministry had rejected the proposal of having National Institute of India in Loliem-Pollem village of Canacona.

“They rejected it on a flimsy ground that the air port is not close to the place. May be their higher officers want to fly down sometimes, but not a valid reason to reject”, he said.

He said a new place has been identified for the NIT near Cuncolim now when in the same area the first proposal was mooted but opposed by the villagers.

Canacona may be economically not developed, but it is the most developed in the field of education, said Parrikar.

It is a place, he said, where most of the dedicated freedom fighters come from and scholars in different fields including academics.

Similar is the case with Keri in Ponda taluka, said Parrikar, which has given good number of scholars to Goan society.

He said both these places have been rightfully suggested by Priol MLA Dipak Dhawalikar and Sports minister from Canacona Ramesh Tawadkar.
