Three routes have been shortlisted in the first slot – Dona Paula to Vasco Harbour, Aldona to Panaji and Curchorem to Panaji.

“We are appointing consultant to decide what kind of passenger boats we should go for”, river navigation minister Sudin Dhawalikar informed the Assembly today.

During the debate over river navigation department, Dhawalikar said this could be also a major tourist attraction.

Opposition leader Pratapsing Rane suggested to the government to consider hinterland routes to avoid road congestion and help people reach faster to the cities.

Dhawalikar also informed the House that the department would build heavy ferry boats to introduce Ro Ro service for goods vehicles, on the lines of Konkan Railway.
