Pvt operators not to implement bus fare hike

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 30 March 2013 20:22 IST

The private bus owners have decided not to implement the bus fare hike proposed by the state government.

It is expected to come in force from 1 April.

However, the All Goa Private Bus Owners’ Association has decided to meet Transport Director Arun Desai to reiterate their demands.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held at T B Cunha hall in Panaji today evening.

Association secretary Sudip Tamankar however said they have deferred their earlier decision to start fast-unto-death from tomorrow.

“We had asked for Rs 10 for the first three kilometres, instead the government has offered us Rs 8 for the first four kilometres”, said Tamankar.

He also dismissed transport department’s contention is that the hike is not above 30 per cent.

Tamankar feels that the whole process would be delayed further since the actual fare table would be prepared only after the notification is published in the gazette.
