Colours in cities.... Shigmo in villages... Holi Hai!!!

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 27 March 2013 17:18 IST

Goa celebrated Holi by painting each other colourful today since morning while the Goan villages celebrated it last night by ending their Shigmo and burning the Holi tree.

No matter you are young, a child or an oldie; the colours washed away the age bars and with a mix of pinks, reds, yellows, blues…

Splashing water and having colourful bath was practically seen everywhere in Goan cities, to the beats of Dholl and Tashe.

People were seen moving on open four wheelers and bikes, shouting Holi Hai while everyone was dancing to the tunes of Holi, throwing away all their hesitancy wrapped up around their professions otherwise.

For the cities, it was a Holi today, celebrating as Rangpanchami.

But for the villages, it was the concluding of five-day Shigmo on their Maand.

The Tonya Mell in Canacona, Quepem and Sanguem and the Romtam Mell in Ponda, Tiswadi etc was over last night.

They played throughout the night the Tonya Mell, Talgadi, Goff at the beats of Ghumat, Shemell and Kansal, along with folk songs.

Similar were the Romtam Mell at the beats of Dholl and Tashe with full vigour and energy.

It was all over with burning of Holi early morning.

And the cities then woke up to play colourful Rangpanchami…..
