Foreign tourists accused of creating dog menace

A ruling legislator told the Goa Legislative Assembly today that foreigners visiting the state were partially responsible for the dog menace on its beaches.
Michael Lobo, a legislator representing Calangute constituency, told the House that foreigners who adopt dogs during their stay in Goa abandon them on the beaches, when they head back to their native country.
Lobo said that adoption of a pet dog is a 'fashion' among foreigners, who live here for 3-4 months on vacation.
"They leave back the animals on beaches creating menace," he said.
During the question hour, Lobo sought governments directives to foreigners through Directorate of Animal Husbandry not to abandon dogs.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who was present in the House refused to respond to the point raised by Lobo.
