Throw out Lamanis to protect Goenkarponn: Babu
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 03 April 2017 21:30 IST
Tourism Minister Babu Azgaonkar has said the migrants like Lamanis need to be thrown out of Goa if they don’t adapt to Goenkarponn (Goan ethos and culture).
According to Babu, the migrants like Lamanis have been pain in the neck in the tourist belt.
“Our Goan culture is such that even a drunk Goan would behave in a decent manner. But these people are bringing shame to Goa with their behaviour”, said the tourism minister.
He however did not elaborate what is the behaviour of migrants like Lamanis that is going against the Goan identity.
He was responding to the question of whether he would take any steps against the Lamanis.
Some people in the tourist belt are complaining that Lamani ladies, who wear colourful dresses and jewellery all over their body, run behind tourists on the beaches selling clothes, jewellery and other items.
This obviously affects the shopkeepers along the coastal belt.
SUSPEND DRUG-RELATED POLICE
Babu has also urged Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to immediately suspend the police officer in-charge, in whose jurisdiction drugs are found.
“How can there be a drug trade without the knowledge of the police? Can anyone put up a table to collect Matka without unofficial permission of the police?”, he asks.
In a similar manner, the tourism minister says it was impossible to have drug trade without the knowledge of the concerned police official.
Goa has a separate anti-narcotic cell which acts against the illegal drug trade.
When such cells and squads seize the drugs, Babu suggests the CM should immediately suspend the officer in-charge of the concerned police station.

If non-goans wish to make a living here, they need to have the basics to respect the land they are in. I do not see anything wrong to have such people chased out of the state

Shame on the tourism minister for such absurd comments.....how can he demean one community (lamani's and non goans) and say only goans are DECENT???? Wrong Mr Minister....u cannot generalise matters ........such statements can only create a wedge between communities.
