Tourists from South-East Asian nations, Nordic countries and the USA spend more than compared to others during their stay in the coastal state.

Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar told the State Legislative Assembly today that Goa received various categories of tourists during the last financial year.

"However, it is very difficult to ascertain the category of the tourists from these countries. Such segregated data is not available on spending capacity of tourist," he said.

The minister said that as per the general trend, it is seen that visitors from South-East Asian countries, Nordic countries and USA are 'higher-spenders' than other countries.

Parulekar was responding to a question tabled by Independent legislator Vijay Sardesai during the monsoon session which began today.

The minister said the government along with travel and trade participated in various tourism related overseas events, exhibitions and roadshows to promote Goa as tourist destination.

He said that the tourism ministry has proposed to engage world's best consultancy services to formulate new tourism policy document and a comprehensive tourism development master plan.

"Development of tourism infrastructure projects such as theme parks, water kingdoms, aquariums, oceanariums through private sector participation is being thought about," he said.
