Vidya Niketan president Ashok Kare expired

Ashok Kare, president of a prestigious Goan institution Gomant Vidya Niketan and a Margao-based businessman, expired today morning, after brief illness.

He was 70.

Salcete Pharmacy, founded by his father Govind Ramnath Kare, was taken at a further height by Ashok Kare.

But he was more known for his contribution in social and cultural sphere, especially through a premier institution Gomant Vidya Niketan.

Kare was the president of GVM consecutively for four terms, from 2000 till date.

Gomant Vidya Niketan is completing its centenary ON 24 March this year.

The GVN is just not known for its theatre, but for leading several social changes in Goa at intellectual level for the last one century, besides its well-equipped library.

Kare is survived by wife Pratibha and son Salil and Kunal.

His funeral will take place at 4.30 today.

In view of sudden death of its president, the GVN has cancelled its cultural programme scheduled on 24 March at 5 pm.
