Deshprabhu back in Cong, to contest Porvorim seat
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 16 January 2012 21:20 IST

Jitendra Deshprabhu returned to the Congress, this time to contest from newly constituted Porvorim constituency.
During 2009 Parliamentary election, he was 'loaned out' to the Nationalist Congress Party, to contest from North Goa.
While losing the seat to BJP's Shripad Naik, Deshprabhu later also lost the post of national secretary.
He was arrested and sent to 15-day police custody for his alleged involvement in illegal mining in his own property in Pernem.
Deshprabhu is now planning once again to cross swords with Shripad Naik, if the latter is allotted Porvorim ticket as the BJP candidate.
“His alleged involvement in illegal mining will not affect the party’s image”, claimed GPCC president Subhash Shirodkar, after welcoming Deshprabhu back into the Congress.
Deshprabhu, the former Pernem MLA, said he cannot contest from his erstwhile constituency as it has been now reserved for the scheduled caste.
