BJP wins Pernem by defeating Deshprabhu twice, NOC Raj over?
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 27 October 2015 11:10 IST

Vasudev Deshprabhu lost both seats
Perhaps for the first time in the history, Pernem defeated the all-powerful Deshprabhus and made the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party victorious, winning 8 out of 10 seats.
Vasudev Deshprabhu, who had made up with his family rival Jitendra Deshprabhu, got defeated in both the seats he was contesting.
“It is an end of NOC Raj in Pernem”, said Panchayat minister Rajendra Arlekar, the Pernem MLA of ruling BJP.
According to him, the people of Pernem have now realised who was halting the progress of the town.
For any developmental work, NOC of Deshprabhus is required in Pernem as most of the land in the town is owned by the Bhatkar Deshprabhu.
The Deshprabhu rivalry between Vasudev and Jitendra was also known for several decades now, with both the cousins always crossing swords against each other.
However, for the first time, they had joined hands to defeat the BJP.
Only one Deshprabhu won the election – Upendra Deshprabhu, fighting on the BJP panel.
The other two seats were won by two independents.
