Deshprabhu in GMC
The central leadership of the Nationalist Congress Party yesterday suspended its national secretary Jitendra Deshprabhu.
The former Pernem MLA has been arrested by the crime branch in the illegal mining case, after his anticipatory bail was rejected.
Deshprabhu had earlier evaded arrest as the crime branch was searching for him.
The action was initiated by the central leadership following the report submitted by state NCP president Surendra Sirsat.
Sirsat confirmed that Deshprabhu has been suspended from both the posts – the national secretary and observer of Gujarat.
While Deshprabhu has been presently remanded to five-day police custody by the Panaji JMFC, his lawyer has moved to the sessions court, seeking bail.
Meanwhile, he has succeeded in getting himself admitted at GMC by complaining about chest pain and hypertension.
Deshprabhu has been arrested on charges of allegedly extracting ore illegally from his property in Pernem. The ore has been valued at around Rs 50 crore.

All parties should follow a minimum code of conduct for their members. The people involved in corruption and crimes should be barred from becoming members by the Political parties. Such measures are necessary to dispel an impression in the minds of the common man that the Political Parties in our Country are becoming a safe haven for criminals and corrupt to take shelter after committing all crimes and acts of corruption and nepotism.
Joining Politics should not be a measure to get immunity from corruption and criminal acts--as is today widely believed....
