BBSM blasts Cong observer Brar

Jagmeet Singh Brar should have read the National Education Policy and the Right to Education Act 2009 before making the irresponsible statement justifying the ill-conceived Medium of Instruction (MoI) decision of the Congress government in Goa.

Brar and Reddy should first inform Goans whether Governments of Punjab and Andhra Pradesh, give grants-in-aid to English Medium Primary Schools; if those governments have rejected this MoI Policy in their states, acceptance of that Policy in Goa only indicates the eagerness of the Indian National Congress to sacrifice the linguistic and cultural ethos of Goa for a possible political mileage in the ensuing Assembly Elections, said Shashikala Kakodkar, Convener of BBSM.

She was referring to the statement of Brar, made at Siolim convention of Congress party, defending its new pro-English MoI policy.

Accusing Brar of making statements that are irresponsible and ignorant of Goa’s history and culture, Kakodkar warned that Goans will subject the Congress Party to unprecedented humiliation in the ensuing Assembly Elections, unless the government withdraws its recent decision on grant-in-aid to English Medium Primary Schools, and reverts to the all India Policy of patronizing Primary Education only through Indian languages. 

Ridiculing Brar’s advice to agitators to sit and discuss the issue with Government instead of taking the issue to streets, Kakodkar pointed out that it is the government, which should have initiated discussions with all stakeholders before taking a decision on the issue.

The time for discussion is now over, and the BBSM agitation, which is fast spreading through the youth of Goa will intensify further, inspite of the strong arm tactics of the Government, warned Kakodkar. 

Brar and Reddy should know that the Portuguese Colonialists, unlike the British, ruled with the Sword in one hand and Cross in the other. The Colonialists, not only indulged in mass conversion of the Hindu population to Christianity but also tried to annihilate the Konkani language and the Hindu culture of Goa.

Goa is still suffering from the cultural after-effects of the Portuguese rule, and the recent demand for grants-in-aid for English from a section of the minority community incited by the Church, and the equally shocking demand not to make Hindi compulsory for school students is only a manifestation of this cultural alienation, said Kakodkar. 

Jawaharlal Nehru’s Congress freed Goa from the Portuguese Rule. Sonia Gandhi’s Congress, instead of promoting cultural integration of Goa with the rest of India, seeks to patronize perpetuation of western culture initiated by the Inquisition in the 16th century, she alleged.
