"A part payment has already been made by the Universities Grants Commission (UGC) to the Goa University towards creation of this Chair," he said here.

"I have requested the Goa Governor to advice the university in this regard so that we have a quality institution for the study and research on the Indian Diaspora in general and the Goan Diaspora in particular," Faleiro said.

The NRI Commissioner said the study on migration in all its diverse aspects is one of the most fascinating areas of research.

"A very large number of universities abroad have this facility."

The former Union Minister said the Chair will deal with the questions and issues regarding the Indian Diaspora in depth and in a comparative context along with the study of migration in other countries.
