PTI, PANAJI | 23 June 2011 19:38 IST

The Goa tourism department will be launching an innovative project through which visitors can get information about the state''s tourist places through Short Message Service (SMS).
Tourism director Swapnil Naik said the system is being developed by Infotech Corporation of Goa Limited (ITGL), a state government run corporation.
Naik said that each location would be allocated unique code number. "Anyone trying to know the information about that place can get it by texting the code number to 56070," he said.
State''s important beaches, heritage sites, religious places will be uploaded on the system, he said adding that the messages can be delivered in the text or audio format.
The department''s initiative is a part of state government''s government to citizen (G2C) initiative. Naik said these code numbers would be publicised properly throughout the state through sign boards and also website of the department.
"All the publicity material will have these codes," he added.
