Govt likely to accept English MoI

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 20 May 2011 18:51 IST

It appears that Goa government would finally come out with a formula on the ongoing controversy of Medium of Instruction, by allowing salary grants to English medium private primary schools.

The formula, worked out in Delhi after meeting union human resource minister Kapil Sibal, is expected to be announced by chief minister Digambar Kamat on Monday, 23 May.

A high level delegation of the ruling Congress party today returned from Delhi after “successful mission”, according to them.

The delegation included chief minister Kamat, GPCC chief Subhash Shirodkar, PWD minister Churchill Alemao, deputy speaker Mauvin Godinho, power minister Alexio Sequeira and others.

The formula presently being worked out, as per the highly places sources in the Congress, is as follows:

According to sources, union human resources minister Sibal opined as follows:

“Parents have a democratic right to choose medium for their children. Right to Education itself propagates freedom of choice. So there is no question of Government outrightly rejecting their demand. Simultaneously, the state Government can take further steps for the propagation of regional languages. Union Government has no issues with the proposal.”

Sources however add that there could be further modifications to this formula, for the advancement of local languages and preservation of local culture.

Earlier, proponents of English medium as well as of Konkani and Marathi were heard by the central Congress leaders.

However, the Bharati Bhasha Suraksha Manch had refused to go to Delhi as they had no invitation – even telephonically – from the Congress.

The Manch was thus represented by only N Shivdas, a Congressman and Goa Konkani Academy president and Fr Mosen Athaide.

Following the meeting in New Delhi, Shashikala Kakodkar now suggests that MOI is divided on communal and religious lines.Hindus vs Christians, North Vs South.

It seems like this failed ex- MLA has no end to her crazy notions and spits out a load of humbug.

IN Goa, people of different religious faiths live in exemlplary harmony.

People like Shashikala Kakodkar are the prime instigators of hate.

Perhaps she is unused to seeing the results of religious hatred in India and the world as a whole.

The need to have MOI in English as an option has been welcomed by a lot of progressive Hindus, not just Christians.

I believe Shashikala Kakadkar does not have the intellectual capacity to increase her worldly knowledge.

She is happy to be a Queen of a small Goan Village or a Goan Vaddo.

If she travels to remote parts of Africa, she could be made a Cheiftan or a Queen of a Chieftan & become very tribal.

She has tribal tendencies.

Hi Franky:

Goa is a multi-lingual State.

If Shashikala Kakodkar doesn`t like living is such a State , she should consider, uprooting her self from Goa and re-settle in a district or rural village of Maharashra, where she would feel at home.

she should not consider Mumbai or Pune as they too are multi -lingual.It has to be a village, where she can dominate theun-educated locals with her crazy form of Politics & views of life & the 21st Century.

For most Goans, she will be remembered as a pre-historic fossil, more suitable to be displayed in a Goan Museum

.

Shahshkala`s ideal of progress is moving backwards. She is not aware stupidity can cost people a good life.A good life is noy only acheivable thru Marathi.Even a Punjabi will tell you that

lets look forward to that great 23rd of May.And I wonder what do they know about preserving cultures,

Ripping down heritage homes (old town houses) and constructing matchbox houses? Stealing land and depriving Goans their rights, especially the rights for gaokars and terming them as shedule caste??Pinching religious sentiments reminding them of loyalty to their gods and spitting at harmony?

I would like to hear your great descions and THE MONTRI'S contributions to a state or rather a country that was never annexed to India. I would like to see that 23rd.when ministers will hoodwink the goans while the schools teach the same old lessons and without eligibility which means , One can answer the eight standard examination with out going throgh all that hassel of years?we may have a number of prodigies who might excel like the education minister of goa and perhaps those kin of the montries who may be referred as pandits........

Interesting .......Amazing India.
