Cong to decide in Delhi on MoI by 20 May
GOANEWS & PTI, PANAJI | 04 May 2011 22:02 IST

The ruling Congress party would decide its stand on the medium of instruction (MOI) issue by May 20.
Congress's Goa desk in-charge, Jagmeet Singh Brar, told reporters that the party will consider all the views before taking the final decision.
However, this time the Congress plans to call all the stakeholders to Delhi for a joint meeting with the national Congress leaders to discuss the issue.
It would probably include the Forum for Rights of Children's Education (FORCE), supporters of English medium as well as Bharati Bhasha Suraksha Manch, supporters of regional Indian langauges as medium of instruction.
Similarly, the Congress Legislature Party is vertically divided on the issue.
While a group of parents and Congress legislators led by minister Churchill Alemao are lobbying for English as MOI, there is another group of Congressmen who support Konkani and Marathi.
As the differences have snowballed into a major controversy, Congress had sent Brar here to study the issue.
Brar told reporters that a delegation of parents lobbying for English would soon meet Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal, and Union Minority Affairs minister Salman Khurshid.
"I will also hold dialogue with other intellectuals who are supporting Konkani and Marathi," he said.
The Congress leader is hopeful that the party will come out with a solution that satisfies everyone in the state.

Hi,
My dear friends, today English is a must langauge everywhere you go. Just because my parents gave me education in English I am working in USA as a Manager with few peoples of other countries working under me.I dont think if they had put me in Konkani medium school I would have got Job in the first place. Just want to ask our goverment, can you provide the same type of Jobs where I can get the same salary. I dont think we have a lot of youngsters without job. So as a Parent I know what to give for my Kids. So tell BJP to stay down since if Congress takes a good decision then they will be in power next time too.

hi .first i would like to ask the people who want konkani as the medium of instruction.how many quality jobs can goa produce? People go abroad because there are no jobs with a good salary in goa. Govt jobs are given to friends and relatives and obc. So how can our future generations learn konkani and work abroad or in other states within india.without english you are a frog in a well.these people who are supporting konkani medium have their wards in english medium schools. Promoting konkani medium schools will boost the english medium business, might be the private schools are boosting the campaign for their survival.please think about the future of our children

I fully agree with massimo, keep the system as it is, it is not worth keeping over 30 different state level languages as MOI. let our children have better employment future nation wide and world wide. KBC please don't mix politics with education.

Mr.Digamber kamat, As a chief minister of Goa should'nt you be taking a decision on your own having your head on your shoulders? you should know for your self that even the constitution of India ,the longest constitution of any sovereign country in the world that lays down framwork defining fundamental political principles establishes the structure, procedures, powers and duties, government and spells out the fundamental rights, directive principles and duties of citizens is also written in 117, 369 words in the english language, because it is an international language that has prospective future and best the communicative language for a lot many reasons .Even the great thinkers thought first who drafted them , for their best reasons known to them and as well as for the welfare of the citizens of india be it for education, entrepreneurship and employment which empowers human resources.
Ask Parrikar the leaders of BJP in which language he got educated and in which language is his degree certified???? and all those who follow him,go ahead and ask your self. Right of education in english is for all or else Parrikar you get THAT SAME degree of yours in marathi or konkani all over gain and than fight for it as a medium for education.
Digamber I thought you were always a operator i seriously thought you were,I think I was wrong and state my case 'Sorry mate, you seem to be misfit.
