Bikini to be back in Goa campaign

PTI, PANAJI | 12 April 2011 19:13 IST

Almost a year after deciding not to use bikini-clad women in its campaigns, Goa tourism department has had a rethink.

State tourism director Swapnil Naik told PTI that department recently signed up three beauties for an advertising campaign, and two of the ladies would appear in bikinis.

The latest campaign, which aims to promote Goa in Europe, features Former Miss Russia Svetlana Stepankovskaya, Indian model Alisha Pekha and Bollywood actor Mahima Chaudhary.

Stepankovskaya and Pekha would be wearing bikinis in the advertisements.

Earlier, tourism department had decided to shun the bikini beauties, fearing that it portrayed "wrong image" of the state.

The then Tourism Minister, Fransisco Micky Pacheco, had said that government advertisements would not have bikini-wearing women.

But Naik said that this was no volte-face, as the new advertisements were only for the European audiences.

The advertisements - in the form of TV commercials -would be aired in Russia and the UK, two countries from where Goa gets majority of its foreign tourists.

Goa attracts 25 lakh tourists annually, of which 4 lakh are foreigners, mainly from the European countries.

tourist come to Goa because of the lovely beaches and to sun bath while their countries are full of snow up to 3 meters high and the sun is out of sight.

This goes back to the incident that took place in Colva when two females in bikinies unrolled their mats and lay down to sun bath. In no seconds there were male indian tourist who circled them and clicked snaps with their eyes popying out and the comments they passed were unbearable for the young tourist they cried in tears and saddly returned to their hotel.

Please hand over leaflets to the incoming neighbouring states tourist of does and dont in Goa on arrival.

I have travelled all over europe and sun bathed but I had no problem with anyone. I was ashamed to see this taking place right infront of my eyes and beeing totally helpless.

I don't see much wrong with bikini. Allowing bikini on beaches has got nothing to do with sex related crimes in Goa. Bikini is worn across all the beaches in the world not all of those places are known for sexual crimes like Goa does.

I would surely want to do it, to prove to many on Earth who think bad about Goa; that we are hospitable and helpful, its only that we have given freedom too much for tourists to spend and stay over in Goa and spoil our state. Drug mafias and casinos...all these are because foreign nationals who come as tourists; Ludovico, we need to start presurring the concerned authorities in acting upon, and promote Goa and Goans the right way.

Anthony, my fellow Goan, if you know so much of Panjim and have some novel ideas about promoting tourism, then please come and educate, the locals, who seem not to know anything about the industry. Perhaps, they think that making Goa, the porn capital of the world, would be attracting tourists, will help.

Very good idea of projecting Goa as a tourist destination. But why stop at bikini...? Why is bikini necessary..?? why not dispense with the bikini too...?? What is the need to hide some parts of the body...?? Displaying nude ladies sipping liquor and enjoying ecstasy on beaches could be more effective in attracting lot many tourists and foreign exchange earnings... There are nude beaches in many tourist destinations.........why not consider this seriously....????

Not done, Mr. Naik.....to promote state tourism bars & bikinis are not the ones. There's much more about Goa that could be advertised, why not the ancient Shantadurga or Mangesh Temple, the Church of St. Sebastian at Fontainhas (an old Portuguese district), the Church of St. Anne, the Fun and Flora at the wildlife sancturies are not these tourist attractions. Of course we do need some activities at the beach we have deep sea fishing, wind surfing and water skiing for that. Why not so much better things about Goa be advertised and having Russian models are Goans not good looking!!!!

PLEASE TAKE THIS SUGGESTION AND PROMOTE IT
