Mickky's dual citizenship now under scanner

Electoral office at Benaulim here has been asked to probe the allegation of dual citizenship against former Goa minister Fransisco Mickky Pacheco, official sources said today.

Last month, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had asked the chief electoral officer of Goa to probe the allegation against Pacheco, a former state tourism minister.

Pacheco, an NCP MLA who has been a minister thrice, has been accused of holding citizenships of India and USA.

Sources said the joint chief electoral officer of Goa, Arvind Bugde, wrote to the electoral registration officer, asking to conduct inquiry into the issue on January 24.

The letter was received yesterday, sources added.

Pacheco claimed that he had only Indian citizenship.

"I have been sworn thrice in the cabinet. If I had dual citizenship, I would not have got the chance even to contest the election," he said reacting to the allegation.

The former minister had to resign after getting embroiled in the controversy over the death of his lady friend, Nadia Torrado.

"I am ready to face any inquiry. In the past too, I have come out clean after being probed for false allegations," he said.

You seem to have a British name, Nothing relating to Goan names. Put your own house in order before you condemn others. Those that have live for Goa can voice themselves from any part of the world. I doubt you are on Goan Soil as I am at this very moment in time.

To Ann Boleyn:

In a further comment to you,in which you have used the name ,and parade your self, as the second wife of King Henry`s the VIII of England,I wish to advise you that I do not need your express permission to express my views wherever I care to.

Please be aware that many educated and learned Indians comment on UK Forums.A visit to the BBC website and UK

Newspaper forums may educate you on this internet phenomenon.

To placate your arrogance further, I wish to advise you that I am now also the proud owner of an (O.C.I )Overseas citizen of India) card / Passport. This prohibits me from voting & standing for elections.

Your ulterior motive, in commenting on a topic that is 6 months old ,and of no major signifance to current issues, demonstrates your lack of good judgement.

You frivolity of using personal insults, demonstrates your lack of good jurisprudence.

To Ann Boleyn:

I will not debate with you the reasons of my Citizenship.

I did not migrate from Goa to the UK.My parents made the decision when I was a minor.

Regardless , my origins are Goan.It cannot be earsed I take pride in that.

I do not see why it is a specific problem for you , for me to express & share my views from afar & express solidarity with people in Goa ,regardless of my citizenship.

I have relations in Goa.Hope that explains one element of my concerns.

I will leave you with one thought.

You can take a Goan out of Goa, but cannot take Goa out of a Goan.

As Mickky has been alleged to be running an Immigration scam by the U.S. authorities, what would stop him doing the same for himself.

Each time he sought his Passport Back from the court to travel to the USA, he probably requested his Indian Passport Back...while concealing his US Green Card.

If he has told the Court authorities in a sworn affadavit, that he is a holder on an Amercian Green Card, and now denies it,than this perjury.

The US Embassy will surely have details of his entry to the USA and the Document he used for this purpose.

It is but sad that the Goan Authorites like to drag such major issues. It does not bid well for the Progress of Goa.

Besides Tourism, Goa now seems to have accquired a reputation for major corruption in all spheres of its Administration.

This is caused by the few for their own selfish and egotistical interests.

Dual citizenship is not allowed by India.

If Mr. Pacheco is indeed in possession of both USA and Indian passports then he is in a big soup. The authorities can easily verify this by taking the issue with the US consulate.
