In a major blow to Goa police, an administrative officer probing the death of Cypriano Fernandes today told the court that he died in police custody due to two head injuries.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sabaji Shetye told the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Panaji, that Cypriano died in police custody due to the injuries which were inflicted on him after his arrest.
Shetye is investigating whether Cypriano's death was custodial.
Three policemen, including Inspector Sandesh Chodankar and sub inspector Radhesh Ramnathkar have already been suspended for procedural lapses by the department.
Cypriano, a 38-year-old seafarer on his vacation back in Goa, was arrested after his lady friend complained that he had threatened her.
He was arrested on January 7 and died next day after being taken to Goa medical college and hospital (GMCH). His relatives alleged he was beaten up by police.
Goa Medical College forensic department head Dr Silvano Sapeco also deposed before JMFC today claiming that Cypriano died due to injuries he suffered due to a ''blunt object''.
The SDM, who had taken Sapeco''s statement during the inquiry, said the death had occurred due to two fatal injuries on his head

At last hope the court finally realizes that the police itself are licensed gondas. Now as the tinted officers are highlighted the court should sack them of their duties and treated as criminals.

Two of the finest sons of the soil, I might say, have done Goa proud, this day, SDM Mr. Sabaji Shetye and Dr.Dias Silvano Sapeco, GMC's Head of Forensics. They must surely have been under tremendous pressure.
