NCP threatens to withdraw support if Jose-Halarnkar not dropped

The state executive committee of the Nationalist Congress Party has threatened to withdraw support to the Digambar Kamat-led coalition government if chief minister does not drop two NCP ministers – Jose Philip D’Souza and Nilkanth Halarnkar, while inducting Mickky Pacheco.
In a meeting that was attended by Mickky but not D’Souza and Halarnkar, the committee also took another resolution of contest all the 40 seats in the next Assembly elections if the Congress party does not adhere to ‘coalition dharma.’
The coalition partners are on loggerheads since the time chief minister Kamat has refused to implement the letter sent by NCP national president Sharad Pawar to drop both D’Souza and Halarnkar, while inducting Mickky.
Pawar had also sent letter to Speaker Pratapsing Rane, intimating him that the leader of the NCP legislature party and its whip would be Mickky. Earlier, these posts were given to D’Souza and Halarnkar respectively.
At today’s meeting, the state executive committee meeting chaired by state president Surendra Sirsat once again endorsed Pawar’s decision in this regard.
Resolution No 2 stated as follows:
“The State Executive Committee took the strong exception to the adamant attitude of State the Congress Party in implementing the decision of the N.C.P. High Command. It was resolved that the irresponsible behaviour of the Congress Party will only strengthen the communal forces and secular forces will take backseat. It was further resolved to recommend the withdrawal of the support to the Alliance Government if Congress doesn’t mend its way.”
The Congress, in the 40-member House, has strength of 20. Besides three NCP legislators, it also has support of two Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party MLAs. Besides independent MLA Anil Salgaoncar, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has 14 members in the House.
Even if the NCP withdraws its support, the Kamat government remains stable if the MGP continues supporting it, with a wafer-thin majority of 22.
Secondly, it would also upset all the permutations and combinations in the next elections.
