Difficult to induct Mickky: Hariprasad

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 27 December 2010 14:06 IST

Congress high command has expressed its reservation on inducting NCP’s Benaulim MLA Mickky Pacheco in the cabinet.

B K Hariprasad, the AICC in-charge for Goa, said: “It appears difficult to induct Mickky. I will convey it to NCP high command.”

Hariprasad, who arrived yesterday, had a meeting with Congress dissidents, led by PWD minister Churchill Alemao, today morning.

NCP high command had instructed both its minister – revenue minister Jose Philip D’Souza and tourism minister Nilkanth Halarnkar – to resign. They did not.

Meanwhile, five ministers and five MLA – all belonging to the ruling Congress – had threatened to withdraw support and topple Digambar Kamat government, if Mickky was re-inducted in the cabinet.

Kamat, who also indirectly supported the move, had conveyed ‘sentiments’ of his party colleagues to the high command. Accordingly, Hariprasad flew down to Goa yesterday.

Besides Churchill, the ministers who revolted against NCP Sharad Pawar’s decision, are urban development minister Joaquim Alemao, education minister Babush Monseratte, sports minister Babu Azgaonkar and water resources minister Philip Neri Rodrigues.

The Congress MLAs include Agnelo Fernandes (Calangute) , Babu Kavalekar (Quepem), Alex Reginald Lawrence (Curtorim), Francis Sliveira (St Andre) and Victoria Fernandes (St Cruz).
