Goa police have booked a 41-year-old Russian man under charges of murder after a local resident, whom he had assaulted, succumbed to injuries this morning.

Superintendent of Police (North) Bosco George told PTI today that the accused Alexander Borowski, who was arrested for attempt to murder, will now be charged under murder offence.

The Russian runs a bar in Morjim village of Pernem taluka. He had assaulted 43 year old Rohidas Shetgaonkar over a petty brawl on the night of 11 February.

The locals had retaliated, assaulting the Russian, after Shetgaonkar was grievously hurt.

The fight began when car headlight driven by Borowski began bothering a group of locals. The verbal arguments turned into a fight in which Shetgaonkar was hurt and was shifted to Goa Medical College hospital in serious condition.

Pernem police station had registered a counter-complaint, by the Russian and locals.
