Opponents accept CM’s challenge of Open Debate on ‘college politics’

Opponents of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar have accepted the challenge thrown up by him, demanding that the public debate be held in his Mandrem constituency, within a fortnight, on the issue of denying grants to Ramakant Khalap’s college.
“Let one of the editors moderate the debate while a retired judge or government official could give a concluding remark on it”, suggested Khalap.
The whole group of politicians supporting the cause of Khalap’s college addressed a press conference in Mandrem today in response to Parsekar’s outburst against the morcha held on last Sunday.
The press conference was jointly addressed by all the political opponents of Parsekar which included, besides Khalap, Sangeeta Parab, Shridhar Manjrekar, GPCC vice president Babi Bagkar, NCP vice president Rajan Salelkar, Sachin Parab, Raghoba Gaude, Anand Shirgaonkar and Prasad Shahapurkar.
They also demanded that the public debate be held in Mandrem, in the presence of locals as well as by inviting the national media.
Refuting the claim of Parsekar that the morcha was not well-attended by the locals, Khalap said 2000 is not a small number and it could spell doom to the CM in the next election.
He also felt that Parsekar, by making fun of women’s power, had insulted the women folk when women’s leaders like Parab, Mahila Congress chief Sunita Verenkar, Morjim Sarpanch Vaishali Shetgaonkar and Raksha Malegaonkar were on the forefront.
Khalap also reminded Parsekar that he could win the last election by literally persuading Parab not to contest but support her, through mediation of defence minister Manohar Parrikar.
According to Khalap, the government was giving an excuse of faculties taught in his college when the choice of faculties was not given to him, unlike other colleges.
He also asked why Parsekar opened the third college in Pernem taluka, that too in a close vicinity of his college in Mandrem, if expansion of Government College in Pernem was on the cards.
Former MLA Parab, who had supported Parsekar in the last election, warned that all the women of Mandrem will teach the CM a lesson in the forthcoming Assembly election.
