No EDMs in Goa between 15 Dec to 15 Jan from next year

It’s official. Goa will not have Electronic Dance Music festivals between 15 December to 15 January from next year.
Sunburn and Supersonic, world’s biggest EDMs held in Goa, will be now spread out between first half of December and second half of January.
“I cleared the file today by telling both the organisers clearly these conditions”, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told goanews.com.
He fears that the normal tourists, and especially the family tourists, coming during Christmas may skip Goa if the EDMs continue during Christmas season.
The EDMs, held from 27 to 30 December, attracts not less than 10,000 music lovers every day in Vagator and Candolim.
As the whole world also comes to celebrate Christmas and New Year in the same belt of North Goa’s coastline, the tourist belt becomes overcrowded and unmanageable for the police to handle.
Goa CM thus held back the file of both the EDMs and cleared it only after conveying them his decision today evening.
“I have told them not to take us for granted any more. And I have put these notings on the file so that all the concerned government officials know it”, said Parsekar.
He said it has also been suggested to hold one event in December and another one in January, so that the regular traffic flow is not hampered.
“Rather than shifting one EDM in the South, they have their event in the same place if they want”, said the CM.
Regarding the recovery of dues as per the high court order, Parsekar said the dues basically pertain to the security fees, which the police department hiked by raising supplementary bill of three years.
“Everything else including entertainment tax and the VAT has been paid while we have also held back their deposit to the tune of Rs one crore each”, he said.
He also told goanews.com that he has a better idea of earn more revenue from EDMs from next year, which he is not prepared to spell out right now.
Meanwhile, the Sunburn organisers have claimed that the crowd would be doubled this year, with music lovers from 50 countries booking their tickets.
Being in the ninth consecutive year, Sunburn at Vagator this year has invited 128 Radio Jockeys, spread out on seven stages including the 200 feet main stage, with electronic music playing for 248 plus hours.
Equally large crowd is also expected to throng at Supersonic, which followed Sunburn at Candolim.
