Goa police burst online sex rackets; hundreds of 'escort' sites found

Beware! Goa police have started cracking down online sex rackets in Goa, being run under the guise of providing ‘escorts’, all along the coastal belt as the prime tourist season takes off.

Two such major online sex rackets were busted by the crime branch of Goa police late last night, in Calangute, arresting eight persons while rescuing eight sex workers.

The outsider operators include two females while local Goans run the guest houses.

Most of them are within the age group of 23 to 29 years, except an old local Goan lady running the guest house.

The whole-night operation was conducted with the help of Arz, a local NGO.

There are hundreds of such websites found on the Internet, some of them providing even photographs of the girls, by hiding their faces.

The police contacted the pimps of two such websites through fake customers and even paid advance money to them to reach the final destination.

According to PI Dattaguru Sawant, these websites provide mobile numbers of the pimps, with whom the deal is struck to supply the sex workers.

The police have also arrested Mandrem-based Gauresh Patekar, a taxi driver, who works as a pimp and transports the customers to the guest houses.

Besides attaching one such taxi and two private cars involved in this sex racket, the police have also attached several mobile sim cards, which the operators keep on changing as a matter of safety.

Police however have still not been able to apprehend the main operators.

“We will find them soon”, PI Sawant told goanews.com confidently.

The girls rescued are from Kolkata, Assam, Haryana, Delhi and Bangalore, who live in the villages of Bardez talukas in rented premises.

Except Patekar, who is a Goan, the rest of the pimps are all outsiders.

They are Megha Nair (28) from East Mumbai, Sumona Das (25) from Kolkata, Ranji Ranvir (23) and Daksh Bansode (24), both from Nanded, Chandrashekhar Mehra (28), Ayu Mehar (29) and Uttam Behera (27), all three from Orissa.
