Rupesh approaches HC for bail, police constitute special team to nab him

Rupesh Samant, a journalist facing four cases of sexual harassment, has now appealed in the high court, challenging the order of rejecting his anticipatory bail.
Meanwhile, the Goa police have approached the additional district and sessions court at Mapusa, seeking issuance of non-bailable warrant against him.
“Our plea was heard today and would be heard once again tomorrow”, SP Kartik Kashyap told goanews.com.
His petition would come up for hearing on Monday to decide whether it should be admitted.
Samant has not been appearing before the police from the next day of the first FIR filed against him based on complaints of two women journalists filed on 25 September.
The police have failed to nab him even after his anticipatory bail was rejected by the court on 14 October.
SPECIAL TEAM CONSTITUTED
While Samant is still on the run, Kashyap announced that a special team has been constituted to nab him, consisting of four police officers.
The team is headed by DySP Nilu Raut Desai, consisting of women’s police station PI Sudiksha Naik as well as of PI Virendra Veluskar and PSI Laxmi Amonkar.
A request in this regard was made once again to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar by the Goa Union of Journalists yesterday.
The efforts to search at all the possible places as well as circulating Look Out notice even in the neighbouring states of Karnataka and Maharashtra have borne no fruits.
BACKGROUND
Samant was working as Goa bureau chief of PTI and anchor of HCN cable TV channel.
He is facing charges of insulting modesty of women through physical act, sending lewd messages on mobile, making sexually coloured remarks and making physical advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures.
The first FIR was filed against him on 25 September based on complaints filed by two women journalists.
This was followed by three more complaints filed against Samant, of varying nature of sexual harassment of his juniors, from 2012 till this year.
However, following the spurt of FIRs of sexual harassment filed against him, Herald Group owning HCN channel had disowned him while he is not found on PTI duty.
