Tilottama Vishwanath Arlekar, mother of Goa Speaker Rajendra Arlekar, expired today early morning.
She was 83.
She would be cremated at Vasco at 4 pm today.
While celebrating five-day Chovoth at their ancestral house in Mayem, Tilottama-bai suddenly started feeling restless after midnight and was rushed to Sanquelim health centre.
She breathed her last at the health centre at 3.40 am.
Tilottama-bai was more than a housewife of Vishwanath Arlekar, the founder president of Jan Sangh in Goa and also later of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
A mother of a single child Rajendra, she faced the situation bravely when both father and son were arrested and jailed during the emergency in 1975.
Known for her hospitality, she was in personal touch with the party workers and worked silently behind the curtain.
She leaves behind her 93-year old husband Vishwanath, her Speaker son Rajendra (Pernem MLA) and her daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
