BJP Govt says pardon Mickky, will Guv be 'Mridul'?

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 30 July 2015 20:25 IST

Goa government has finally decided to grant pardon its jailed former minister Mickky Pacheco.

The cabinet led by Laxmikant Parsekar has approved the proposal and sent to Governor Mridula Sinha.

She had earlier sent the pardon plea back to the government, throwing the ball in the government’s court.

The cabinet took the decision while Mickky’s plea for a parol to attend the ongoing Assembly session is still pending before the government.

Mickky’s two-member Goa Vikas Party is the alliance partner of the B JP-led government in Goa.

He was sent to jail with six-month imprisonment for assaulting a junior electricity engineer in 2006.

As a result, Mickky has to also step down as the minister.

Activist Aires Rodrigues, who has been consistently foiling Mickky’s attempts to skip the jail term, has once again petitioned to the governor not to grant pardon from the jail term.

He has been in the jail since 30 May.
