Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today said the state government has been supporting the setting up of a golf course by a private investor in his constituency.
"We are supporting the golf course as the investor has taken all the required permission. Our government has been striving to bring in investment in the state and such projects are welcome," Parsekar told PTI.
The Chief Minister's statement comes at the backdrop of agitation by locals against the golf course project at Tiracol village in Pernem Taluka.
Opposition party, Congress, had also expressed it's objection for the project.
Private company M/S Leading Hotels Private Limited is constructing the golf course.
Parsekar, who represents Mandrem constituency said the project has all the required clearances from the authorities.
"There is no opposition for this project. Only few houses in that village are opposing. Rest of the people are happy that such a project is being set up," he said.
The Chief Minister said the project was cleared during then Congress led government regime.
"Even when the project was cleared by Congress, I was supporting it," he said.
Parsekar stated the state has been trying to attract investment to speed up the industrial growth.
"Unnecessary opposition for this project will send wrong signal amongst the investors," he added.
The Goa government has prepared industrial cum investment policy aiming to create job opportunities in the state.
