Police to approach court to get Mickky declared as absconder

Goa police is planning to approach the court with a request to declare former minister Mickky Pacheco an absconder.
In this direction, police today registered a non-cognisable offence against Nuvem MLA, who has not been traceable since an arrest warrant has been issued against him.
Mickky had quit the cabinet post as soon as he was convicted by the Supreme Court in a case of assaulting a government electrical engineer in 2006.
Judicial Magistrate (First Class) had then issued an arrest warrant against Pacheco, which expired last Friday.
"A non-cognisable case has been registered against Pacheco. We will have to inform the court that he is absconding," Superintendent of Police (Goa South) Shekhar Prabhudesai said.
The police acted on a complaint filed by Aires Rodrigues, who has been trying all possible legal methods to get him arrested as per the Supreme Court verdict.
Mickky, on the other hand, is avoiding arrest with a hope that the review petition he has filed in the apex court would come up for admission.
SP Prabhudesai said the police have been trying to trace Pacheco, who is the chief of Goa Vikas Party, a partner in the ruling coalition.
As the former minister could not be traced, the court gave five days' extension to Pacheco to surrender.
Pacheco, a controversial figure in Goa politics, had slapped an on-duty junior engineer nine years ago, for which he was sentenced to six months in jail by the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court in 2014.
The former Rural Development Agency Minister had filed a review petition in the apex court against his conviction with the apex court, which is yet to be admitted.
