GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 24 November 2014 22:36 IST

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar is no more MLA of Panaji now. He is now officially Rajya Sabha MP from Lucknow.
Goa speaker Rajendra Arlekar today confirmed having been received resignation of Parrikar.
Panaji, the capital city of Goa, would now have a by-election to choose its new represented.
The city was represented by Parrikar for the last two decades, since 1994, by getting elected for five consecutive times.
Quitting his position as the Goa chief minister, Parrikar was recently inducted in the union cabinet by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an influential position.
He was then immediately elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Lucknow.
Accordingly, Parrikar submitted his resignation when he came down to attend 45th IFFI, which started on 20 November.
However, neither BJP nor Parrikar has announced his successor.
Local BJP president Vinay Tendulkar in fact said that the name of the new BJP candidate would be announced by the central leadership.
Parrikar has assured to come down to Goa to campaign and retain his five-term seat.
