Writers-Raders' Fest to be annual affair after IFFI

After the acclaimed International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa will be now hosting the new-born literary extravaganza--The Writers and Readers Festival--annually, bringing together authors from across the globe.
"We are happy the way we received response for the festival. It is going to be an annual edition in Goa," festival founder Alaham Anil Kumar told PTI, on the concluding day of the festival yesterday.
Kumar said the festival was hosted to give a great platform where intelligent minds from all over the world gather here and mingle around with local talent in India, and put the Goan culture and literary diversity on the world map.
"I am happy that some of the prominent authors like Thomas Keneally, arrived to attend the festival. Its been great to have wonderful authors come here and share their experiences," he said.
While authors discussed crucial issues like exponential growth of English over regional languages and also conflict in media, the euphoria created by social media in writers and readers' circle, was the icing on the cake for the event.
"For writers, its a great opportunity because it is a great avenue for them. I am sure if Thomas Keneally (famous Australian writer) had such avenue when he started writing fifty years ago, he would have done more wonders. Its a great platform for writers and readers," Kumar said.
The organiser said that the boom in social media is also providing new avenue for the publishers.
"For publishers any new avenue is a revenue model. Nobody is now waiting for the news media or TV to come and give you the news. Information is now available on finger tips. Social media is a wonderful platform for writers and readers also. Writers because they can reach out to millions of audience there and readers can chose what they want to read," he added.
The festival opened on October 4.
