Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today announced in the Legislative Assembly that he would trim his security cover by doing away with the escort policemen as other departments of police are facing shortage of personnel.
"I have decided to revert them (escort policemen) to the main pool," Parrikar said on floor of the House.
The Chief Minister also said that around 30 police personnel would be transferred from VIP security duty to the main pool and their services will be utilised in departments like Traffic Police, which is currently facing the shortage.
Parrikar was responding to a question on police shortage, tabled by Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte.
In a written reply, the Chief Minister admitted that the Traffic Police department is currently facing shortage by 46 per cent.
"The sanctioned strength of traffic cell is 522 but the current strength is only 329," he said.

Well done Mr Parrikar. You will save a lot of Goan Tax-Payer money by your noble deed.
As a piece of advice, you could always employ the "Goon of Karnataka" Pramod Muthalik, as your Bodyguard.
You see, just the sight of his shining Sword or swords will deter any one from harming you.
