Churchill re-quits Cong, to contest as independent
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 22 March 2014 12:05 IST

Heavyweight politician of Goa, Churchill Alemao, finally resigned from the Congress, once again, to contest this time as an independent.
He had threatened to quit since the high command did not give Lok Sabha ticket of South Goa to his daughter Valanka Alemao, the Goa Youth Congress president.
He had set a deadline till 11 am today morning, to reconsider the decision of giving South Goa ticket to Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco.
Lourenco was brought into picture last minute even after initially clearing name of sitting Congress MP Francisco Sardinha.
Churchill had demanded to reconsider the decision either for Valanka or Sardinha.
In 2007 Assembly election, Churchill had brought in Lourenco to defeat Sardinha in Curtorim.
Churchill today submitted his resignation from primary membership of the party to Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president John Fernandes.
He will now contest as an independent candidate, crossing swords with his own party, in South Goa.
He has been a MP twice before – in 1996 as the United Goans Democratic Party member and in 2004 as the Congress member.
His whole family was defeated in the last Assembly election held in 2012.
He had earlier quit Congress to form the UGDP in 1996 and then again to form Goa People's Front in 2007, but had returend to Congress.

Churchill is a child that throws his toys out of the Pram when he denied attention. Goans rejected the Alemao family at the local elections, what hope do they have at the General elections. They are better off packing their political bags and putting them selves out to pastures.

One should not expect anything better from the Madman of Varca. Perhaps the Vultures of Varca may also be appropriate, as they will chew Goa & Goans to the bone.
Goa and Goans does not belong to his family & never will.
He along with his disgraceful family were shown the exit door last elections.
If Goans do not want any Alemao family member representing them In Goa...why do they want one, and especially an inexperienced person like Valanka representing them at the Centre.?
On a grander scheme of Goan politics, Pratima Coutinho has been a great performer and would out shine Valanka Alemao any time. She has worked hard and moved up the ranks. Valnaka on the other hand wishes a top job with absolutely no effort. Even worse no credibility.
