MoI policy will encourage Konkani-Marathi

Defending his government's policy of medium of instruction (MOI) in elementary education, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today claimed that it will encourage education in Konkani and Marathi languages.
He was speaking after inaugurating the first Rajbhas Sammelan (Official Language Convention), organised by Official Languge Department, in the city.
"Twenty five per cent of the students who were exclusively studying in English will now be introduced to Konkani or Marathi in their curriculum in the wake of this policy," said Parrikar, while defending the policy which has come under fire from regional languages' supporters.
A group named 'Get Well Soon', which had launched a campaign against the then Congress-led government over MOI policy, had termed Parrikar government's policy as a carbon copy of his predecessors.
The group objected to the grants given for schools which have English as the medium of instruction.
Parrikar today said there are 22,000 primary students who are learning in English and will be introduced to local languages. The government has asked the schools teaching in English to have bilingual books, he said.

Change The Konkani Devnagri Script Into Konkani Roman Script And Konkani Takers Will Increase. No One Is Interested In Konkani Devnagri Script. Marathi Should Be Optional Language Along With Hindi, French, Etc. MoI Must Be English And Konkani In Devnagri Or Roman Script.

Those Who Demand Marathi As The Official Language Of Goa Must Go First To Maharashtra And Demand Konkani As The Official Language Of Maharashtra.
