'Majority' would benefit from grants to minority schools: FORCE

FORCE, the organization fighting for government grants to English medium private primary schools, has said the government decision to give grants to all minority institutions in English medium schools would actually benefit the students from the ‘majority’ community.

Savio Lopes, convenor of FORCE, welcomed the government decision, calling it a win-win situation for all the stakeholders as the decision is balanced and inclusive in nature.

He also told goanews.com that the statistical data has proved that there are more students from the majority communities than the minorities in the private primary schools run by the minorities.

Even goanews.com had carried a report in August last year, based on information supplied to the Legislative Assembly, that 14,525 students of majority community study in the 130 Church-run schools, compared to 12,012 from the minority community.

Lopes refused to buy the argument that the government policy would benefit only the minorities.

“Unfortunately, the managements owned by non-minority people did not want government grants but run it by charging huge amount of fees to the students”, said Lopes.

The FORCE, which was earlier demanding grants to all the English-medium private primary schools, later retracted as no other private institution other than Archdiocesan Board came forward to support the demand.

“We thus changed our demand and restricted to only those English medium private schools, who wanted salary grants”, said Lopes.

While thanking chief minister Manohar Parrikar for the decision to give grants to English medium schools run by minority institutions, he also said he was happy that 341 English teachers were appointed in Konkani and Marathi medium schools to teach them English.

Now FORCE should ask for authority for schools to decide the curriculum for the schools. Finally is it not the basic right of the parents to decide what is good for their children ? FORCE would get it.

Mr Manohar Parrikar desereves to be congratulated for his 'inclusive' decision on MOI. Nobody even Modi can run Government by exclusion and being partial to certain communities based on caste, creed, region or religion. Three cheers to Mr. Parrikar by one who started this language couldron in 2010 by writing two articles in 'Herald' on Mother tongues and version of scientists after brain studies
