“Parrikar betrayed on MoI for minority votes at LS polls”

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has been accused of betraying the majority viewpoint of Goa that primary education should be imparted in mother tongue and not English.

Though eminent Konkani leader Uday Bhembre refused to call it a betrayal, Aravind Bhatikar, another leader of the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch described it as a clear cut betrayal.

Bhembre however described the government decision on Medium of Instruction of the BJP government as a mere ‘drama’ while disclosing that the consultative committee never consulted them.

Bhembre was a special invitee on the consultative committee constituted by the government with chief minister Manohar Parrikar as its chairman.

According to Bhatikar, the decision to continue salary grants to English medium primary schools a political game to benefit forthcoming Lok Sabha election, especially in Salcete, from the minorities.

The BBSM however would meet little later this week to take an official stand in this regard as its convenor, Shashikala Kakodkar, is out of town.

Bhembre disclosed to goanews.com that Parrikar merely ‘heard’ them, one by one, in the consultative committee and the issue was never ‘discussed.’

 

“In fact he made it clear in the meeting that the committee is not meant for consultation and he may not go by majority viewpoint”, revealed Bhembre.

He also wondered from where the concept of minority institution figured when it was not at all disclosed to the committee members.

“He has discarded our view as well as views expressed by the majority of the people of Goa. This is not called for”, he said in disgust.

Bhatikar, while talking to goanews.com, sounded betrayed by Parrikar and his BJP government as he said they believed that no grants would be given to English medium primary schools.

“This is a clear political move to gain minority votes in South Goa, especially from Salcete taluka”, alleged the BBSM leader, while expressing his personal view.

He also felt that there is absolutely no difference between the decision taken by the erstwhile Congress government and today’s BJP government.

“The only silver lining in this decision is to make Konkani or Marathi subject compulsory till SSC”, he felt.

Bhembre however felt there is a difference between the Congress and the BJP decisions.

“Congress never applied its mind while giving grants to Church-run primary schools, but the BJP applied its mind and arrived at a universal principle of having primary education in mother tongue”, said Bhembre.

He felt that certain decisions like making Konkani or Marathi subjects compulsory could help development of Konkani.

In the first place we should view schools run by minority institutions as separate from the general schools. No govt has authority to meddle into the affairs of minority institutions. That is what Constitution says unequivocally. Mr. Parrikar knows this. As regards imparting education in mother tongue the majority community should start schools in mother tongue and send their children there. No blame game please.

These politicians have always lived in goa being politicians and robing its resourses,they didnt find any reason for learning english as they have full ascess to create scams and earn money. But we have a need to learn english for better jobs because konkani is not an international language .Create world class jobs in goa and then impose medium of instruction in konkani and i will be happy to educate my children in konkani and work in goa.

Hope the new generation understands the issue without a blinkered vision and with a scientific temper.

The best solution could be:

If a primary school runs in English medium, there should be at least three subjects taught in the local ( Konkani) language. Similarly Vernacular medium primary schools must be forced to teach three subjects in English.

Mr. Parrikar please Don't Ruin Goa and its future in the name of POLITICS , Medium of education ,should be in English ,as Learning English from grass root level will truly make children of Goa,, compete on International level ..don't try to make Goa another UP ,, Bihar ,,,, Forget Goan children getting jobs abroad to earn livelihood in future, they will not even be able to work for call centers in our very own motherland , Goa cannot provide a decent livelihood to its Men so hence people are working overseas with the help of little English they learned from the catholic schools....!!! Plz don't EVEN try to play POLITICS with THE MEDIUM OF EDUCATION

Ms. Shashikala Kakodkar is a person who has been the most dtrimental oerson to the interests of Goa in the past and promises to be so in future, too. She has split Goa on lines of caste and religion nut wanted Goa to loose its identity by merging into Maharashtra.
