GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 25 November 2013 21:32 IST

Goa police have succeeded in arresting almost nine accused in the murder case of Obada Uzoma Simeon, a Nigerian, on the night of 30 October.

The Mapusa police today arrested three more accused while five more are still on a run.

“We will arrest all the 14 accused”, said Mapusa DySP Serafin Dias confidently while talking to goanews.com.

The three arrested today are Ashish Gaonkar, Sagar Naik and Rohan Palyekar.

They were apprehended in Dhuler, near Mapusa.

However, most of them are absconding outside Goa, said Dias.

While the murder had come to light on 31 October, the police arrested the first accused – Suren Pol  - on 6 November.

The issue got diverted as a group of around 60 Nigerians created ruckus at Porvorim by blocking the National Highway, pulling the dead body of the hearse van while also smashing police vehicles.

The police had immediately arrested 52 Nigerians, many of whom were found to be staying in Goa without proper documents.

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar had announced that all the foreign nationals, including Nigerians, not having proper documents, would be deported.

While the arrested Nigerians were subsequently released, police have now started arresting murder suspects, who are supposedly members of the gang from Arpora.

The murder believed to have taken place out of a gang war, supposedly involved in a drug trade.

“All the accused have been remanded to police custody while investigation is still going on”, said DySP Dias.
