Tehelka avoiding police complaint against Tejpal?

While Goa government is planning to file a suo motto FIR against Tehelka Editor-in-Chief Tarun Tejpal in a sexual assault case, it appears that the Tehelka management is trying to avoid a police case.
The police in Goa has already started a thorough probe into the alleged case of sexual assault, which is not less than a rape.
Shoma Choudhury, managing editor of Tehelka, however told media persons in New Delhi that the victim girl is not interested in filing a police complaint.
“She got more than what she wanted from Tejpal”, claimed Choudhury, who said she is in constant touch with the girl victim, a junior journalist in Tehelka.
The incident learnt to have taken place at Hyatt Resort at Bambolim a week ago, during THiNK Fest organized by Tehelka.
According to Choudhury, the victim girl wanted an apology from Tejpal, while he has stepped down as the editor-in-chief for six months and has also rendered unconditional apology for the sexual assault.
The managing editor also said Tehelka would constitute a sexual harassment committee by today evening to probe into the complaint of a sexual assault.
Several women’s activists however have said mere apology and stepping down from the position cannot be the solution to the crime of a sexual assault.
“It is a crime and has to be dealt with as a criminal offence by the investigating authorities”, said one women’s activist during a debate on CNN-IBN.
She also flayed Tejpal stepping down, equating it to Asaram Bapu announcing not to preach for six months as a penance for the most brutal criminal act of rape.
