IFFI is a place of learning: Kamal

“IFFI is a place of learning for me and I plan to continue doing it”, said Kamal Hassan, veteran film maker of India after the 44th International Film Festival was opened today evening.
He accompanied Hollywood actor Susan Serendon, Indian singer Asha Bhosle and veteran actor Rekha to inaugurate the 11-day event.
“I have been coming for IFFI for many years now”, he said, praising the quality of cinema in the Fest.
Hassan, the 59-year old film maker, also acknowledged the richness of IFFI, stating that he has attained lot of knowledge through this festival.
Among hundreds of world and Indian cinema from all the regions, this year’s IFFI is going to screen almost 15 Oscar-nominated films.
“I intend to watch some good films even during this IFFI”, said Hassan, the actor as well as an equally creative director.
He was thrilled to watch Birju Maharaj, a legend in Indian classical dance, choosing one of his South Indian film to showcase 100 years of Indian cinema.
Birju Maharaj troupe of classical dancers projected Indian cinema by performing some of the best classical dances is has screened in Indian cinema.
Later, Birju Maharaj personally appeared on the stage, performing a jugalbandi with a Sitar maestro Ustad Nishad Khan.
Birju Maharaj, Ustad Nishad Khan and the troupe leader Shashwati Sen were later feted at the hands of Kamal Hassan and equally a powerful dancer and actor Rekha.
