Prez Pranabda to open 44th IFFI this year

The 44th edition of International Film Festival of India would be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee on November 20 in Goa.
"President (Pranab Mukherjee) will inaugurate the 11 day festival. About 160 foreign films will be showcased under various categories..", Press Information Bureau Additional Director General K M Ravindran told reporters here today.
Ravindran announced this while briefing the media here about the 18th edition of biennial International Children's Film Festival commencing at Hyderabad from tomorrow.
Academy award winning actress Susan Sarandon, Iranian Director, Producer and Screenwriter Majid Majidi, Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Holland are expected to participate in the International Film Festival, he said.
He said the International Competition for Feature Films would see films compete for total prize money of Rs 13.2 crore.
Czech Film director and Actor, Jiri Menzel Czech Comedy film -- The Don Juans will be showcased on the opening day of the International Film Festival.
A movie about Former South African President Nelson Mandela -- "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" directed by Justin Chadwick and written by William Nicholson will be showcased on the occasion, he said.
The Children’s Film Festival would screen over 200 films from 48 countries in the week-long festival, also known as "The Golden Elephant".
"The Children's Film Festival will be held in Hyderabad on November14 and is organised by Children's Film Society India, an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with Government of Andhra Pradesh", he said.
There would be 10 screens across Hyderabad that will have 30 shows on various movies. About 1.50 lakh children are expected to come, he said.
He said for the first time, some films that were screened during the Cannes Film Festival and Toronto Film Festival would be showcased in this festival too, he said.
