Digambar rises to oppose Margao municiaplity re-tender scam
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 17 October 2013 18:45 IST

Goa government has decided not to issue work orders of 20 controversial e-tendered works of Margao Municipal Council.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat joined his party colleague Aleixo Reginald Lourenco and Fatorda’s independent legislator Vijay Sardesai to raise the issue.
The debate was related to 14 works being re-tendered when the PWD had already tendered the same works.
“This is corruption and daylight robbery”, said Sardesai.
While the goof up is made by the council members, urban development minister Francisco D’Souza said he had already instructed not to issue any work order till the inquiry is complete.
The Margao municipal council members are supporters of both Kamat and Sardesai, pointed out chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
D’Souza also expressed surprise how the council initially passed a unanimous resolution for tendering of these works and later 12 councilors objecting to it.
A difference of opinion also arose as Sardesai said 14 works are re-tendered while minister D’Souza claimed there appeared to be duplication of 12 works.
While D’Souza said inquiry is on, Kamat brought to his notice that the Chief Officer, appointed by the government, has e-tendered the same works, pending inquiry.
“The Chief Officer is overruling your instructions”, alleged Kamat.
The issue was put to rest after chief minister Parrikar assured that no work order would be issued until all the facts and allegations are verified.
