Goa tourism department has decided to give a facelift to four shorelines, including Colva, in the South district in a bid to divert tourists from the crowded beaches of North Goa.
The upgradation of infrastructure in tourist places of Colva, Gonsua, Betalbatim and Benaulim beaches in South Goa has been taken up with the central government funding, state Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar told PTI here.
The Union tourism ministry has sanctioned Rs 17.23 crore for development of these beaches, the work on which would be completed within 180 days from the day of execution of the work work order, he said, adding the project is named as "Colva Circuit."
"All South Goa beaches are internationally famous and attract a lot of tourists. Considering the present scenario, these areas demand development, upgradation and a facelift, which can help accommodate more tourists and provide better facilities to them that will help boost tourism in South Goa," Parulekar said.
The infrastructure development project that would be implemented along these beaches in South Goa will include creating and improving various facilities like parking of vehicles, children's park with play area, changing rooms, toilets, seating, pathways, among others.
It will also include beautification of strategic parts and places of interest along the southern coastline, which would help Goa in attracting more tourists, the minister added.
