Institutions to get Govt land/buildings

Goa government has decided to allot either government land or its unused building on lease to social institutions, including the associations of migrants living in Goa.
The land or the building would be leased out to the institutions for 21 years, with a token rent of Rs one per square meter for land and Rs two per square meter for the building.
The institutions would get maximum 2000 square meters of land or building space of 200 square meters.
The state government has hundreds of government primary school buildings, lying vacant in a dilapedeted condition.
A scheme in this regard was today passed by the cabinet.
“The scheme would however not be applicable to the institutions propagating religious activity or discriminating on the lines of caste, creed or religion”, said chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
The scheme however will be exended to the institutions restricted to specific linguistic groups like Malyali Assocaition etc, clarified the CM.
The institutions, elected democratically and registered under Socieites Act, should be involved in educational, cultural, social or sports fields as well as professional bodies like Chartered Accountants etc.
As per the scheme, the institution needs to be functioning at least for the period of five years and should have minimum Rs one lakh in its bank account.
Parrikar however clarified that priority of this land or building would be given to the government departments, before alloting it to social institutions.
The scheme has chalked out detailed guidelines, based on which a high powered committee headed by the Chief Secretary would select the institutions, who apply.
The final decision in this regard however would be taken by the government and the chief minister.
