Mayor of Panaji, the capaital city of Goa, has urged the police to round up rowdy casino-goers who cause nuisance on city roads from midnight onwards till morning.
Panaji Mayor Surendra Furtado has writeen a letter to Director General of Police that some of the casino goers even break beer bottles on the road while shouting aloud in a drunken state.
“I request you to forthwith deploy police personnel and to round up these groups of Casino clients and staff if they are found disturbing the peace during the wee hours of the night and causing a nuisance to the residents of the area”, the letter states.
While the state excise rules do not allow any liquor outlet to be open after 11 pm, Furtado has also asked how the casino ships are allowed sold liquor after midnight.
According to him, the casino goers, mostly the youngsters, come out of the offshore casinos anchored in river Mandovi and loiter on the city roads with beer bottles or cans in their hands.
“Is there a different yardstick for the Casino clients and staff as regards to interpretation of excise rules and serving of liquor? As it is, consumption of alcohol in a public place is an offence under the IPC”, he points out to the police.
