Official mining records digitised

Goa Mines and Geology Department has digitised all its records, including mining plans right up to 1930s, following fears that they might get lost during shifting of its office premises.
The Mines Department is being shifted to a new location in Panaji, during which lakhs of documents would be transported.
"We have digitised all the records which will be saved on a server," Director of Mines Prasanna Acharya told PTI today.
Almost two-and-a-half lakh documents were scanned and stored on the server with a huge backup, he said.
The department has the records dating back as early as 1930s when mining and exports of iron ore in the state, then under Portuguese rule, began, officials stated.
Post 1961 liberation, these documents were handed over to the new Goa Government by Portuguese authorities.
The Department, currently housed in Udyog Bhavan, is shifting to a nearby building which is home to several Government offices and police headquarters.
The State Government posted police personnel at the Mines Department premises after the mining scam came to light.
Some sensitive documents, which were examined during the probe into the illegal mining, were shifted to a secret location under police protection, the officials added.
