Rather than reversing the decision to extend school timings by half an hour, Goa government has decided to give two-day holidays to the schools, which opt for full-day school.

A notification in this regard is expected this week.

The education department however would decide to reduce the school timing from five and a half hours, on casep-to-case basis, provided the proposals comes from the Parents Teachers Association and the school head.

Quite a few parents and lots of teachers had protested against the decision of the educationsists to extend school timings for five a half hours by increasing it by half an hour.

“We will not change the decision, but we would welcome the schools extending it to six and half hours”, said chief miniser Manohar Parrikar.

Such schools can take holidays both on Saturday and Sunday, said Parrikar.

Goa is the only state in the country which was runnin schools, from primary to higher secondary, only for five hours.

However, he has announced concession to the schools to reduce the timings for five hours, provided they make an application in this regard.

Parrikar had a meeting with PTAs last week, listening to their grievences and assuring a solution this week.
